Energy Mark

Solutions

Any product with a measured energy test.

From refrigerators and air conditioners to motors, batteries and tyres. Pick a product family to see what Energy Mark reads and predicts.

01 / 12

Refrigeration

Refrigerators, deep freezers, beverage coolers and commercial cabinets.

The test

The unit is pulled down to temperature in a controlled room, then held while the compressor cycles. Energy is measured over a long stable period, often a full day or more, and sometimes at more than one ambient condition.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Pull-down time and how temperatures converge
  • Compressor on and off times, and duty cycle
  • Power per cycle and cumulative energy
  • Ambient temperature, humidity and voltage stability

Predicts: Annual energy consumption with a range, and the band that range falls in.

02 / 12

Air conditioning and heat pumps

Room, cassette and tower ACs, light commercial units, chillers, heat pumps and air coolers.

The test

Units run in a calorimeter or psychrometric room at fixed indoor and outdoor conditions. Capacity and power are recorded once readings hold steady. Variable-speed units repeat this at several load points to build a seasonal rating.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Time for capacity and power to settle at each test point
  • Compressor speed and fan behaviour
  • Air-side and refrigerant-side temperatures
  • Room condition drift

Predicts: Steady-state capacity and power at each test point, and the seasonal efficiency rating, each with a range.

03 / 12

Water heating

Electric storage water heaters and solar water heaters.

The test

A storage heater is heated to its set temperature, then left to stand while heat loss is measured, typically over a day. Solar water heaters are tested against set irradiance and draw-off conditions.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Heat-up curve and time to set point
  • Early cooling rate during the standing-loss period
  • Element duty and thermostat cycling
  • Ambient and inlet water temperature

Predicts: Standing loss and rated efficiency, with a range.

04 / 12

Space heating, boilers and ventilation

Space heaters, solid fuel and packaged boilers, and ventilation units.

The test

Heating appliances are brought up to steady output, then measured at one or more load levels. Boilers and heaters can take hours to reach thermal equilibrium before the measurement period starts.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Warm-up and approach to steady output
  • Flue or outlet temperature trend
  • Fuel or electrical input over time
  • Ambient and return temperature

Predicts: Steady-state and seasonal efficiency, with a range.

05 / 12

Laundry and dishwashing

Washing machines, washer-dryers, tumble dryers and dishwashers.

The test

A standard load runs through a full programme, several times over and at more than one load size. Each run can take hours, and the rating is an average across runs.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Energy in the water-heating phase
  • Drum, pump or heater power profile
  • Water intake volume and temperature
  • Programme phase timing

Predicts: Energy and water use per cycle, with a range, from the early phases of each run.

06 / 12

Cooking

Induction hobs, LPG stoves, microwave ovens, ovens and range hoods.

The test

Hobs and stoves heat a standard water load; ovens heat a test load to a set temperature. Tests repeat across burners, zones or cavities, and the rating combines them.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Heat-up rate in the first minutes
  • Power or gas flow profile
  • Load temperature rise
  • Ambient and vessel conditions

Predicts: Thermal efficiency or energy per cycle, with a range.

07 / 12

Lighting

LED lamps, fluorescent lamps, ballasts and other light sources.

The test

Lamps are measured once light output and power stabilise. Lumen maintenance tests then run for thousands of hours to show how output falls over life.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Warm-up and stabilisation of light output and power
  • Early lumen depreciation
  • Lamp or driver temperature
  • Supply voltage

Predicts: Efficacy at stabilisation and the lumen maintenance trend, with a range.

08 / 12

Displays and electronics

Televisions, computers, office equipment, phones, servers and power supplies.

The test

Displays play a standard video loop while power is logged. Computers and office equipment move through on, idle, sleep and standby modes. Results are averages across set periods and modes.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Power over the early part of the test loop
  • Mode transitions and timing
  • Luminance and brightness settings
  • Supply voltage

Predicts: Average on-mode power and mode-weighted energy, with a range.

09 / 12

Motors, pumps and fans

Industrial motors, agricultural and submersible pumps, circulators, and ceiling, pedestal and table fans.

The test

Motors run at rated load until winding temperature stops rising, then efficiency is measured at several load points. Pumps and fans are measured across their duty curve.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Temperature rise curve during the heat run
  • Input power and current at each load point
  • Speed and slip
  • Flow and head for pumps, air delivery for fans

Predicts: Final temperature rise and efficiency, with a range, and the class it falls in.

10 / 12

Compressors and industrial equipment

Air compressors, refrigerant compressors and welding equipment.

The test

Compressors run on a calorimeter or flow test stand until conditions settle, then capacity and power are recorded at rated points. Welding equipment is measured across its operating states.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Discharge temperature and pressure settling
  • Power and current draw
  • Suction and ambient conditions
  • Capacity or flow trend

Predicts: Capacity, input power and efficiency at rated points, with a range.

11 / 12

Power, solar and storage

Transformers, solar inverters and modules, generator sets, traction batteries and EV chargers.

The test

Transformers go through a temperature-rise test that runs until oil and winding temperatures settle. Inverters and chargers are measured at several load points. Batteries are cycled, sometimes for weeks.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Oil and winding temperature trend
  • Losses at each load point
  • Charge and discharge curves
  • Ambient and cooling conditions

Predicts: Final temperature rise and losses, conversion efficiency, or capacity retention, with a range.

12 / 12

Tyres

Rolling resistance testing for tyre energy labels.

The test

The tyre runs against a test drum at set load, pressure and speed. It is warmed up first, then rolling resistance is measured once readings settle.

What Energy Mark reads early

  • Warm-up trend in force and tyre temperature
  • Load and pressure stability
  • Drum speed
  • Ambient temperature

Predicts: Rolling resistance coefficient, with a range, and the label class it falls in.
